The Bunker are working in partnership with The Sunderland Recovery College to support local people who have been struggling with mental health conditions, by offering an interactive weekly music workshop, where participants can develop their musical skills and social skills. The group music sessions, cater for up to 12 members of the local Community, who all learn a musical instrument, play together to learn cover songs, or write new songs, whilst also getting the chance to record in a music studio and perform a showcase event in a venue.
Sunderland Recovery College, based in Fulwell, offers a range of free recovery focused educational courses for people with lived mental health experience, or for their friends and family.
The courses are free and designed to contribute to recovery and well-being, supporting clients to recognise their own talent and resourcefulness. They help people to become experts in their own self management; make informed choices and achieve the things they want to achieve in life.
No referral is required to attend the courses. Those interested simply need to enrol at an enrolment day, which is an easy process, but as courses are popular and fill up quickly – it’s always best get their early on enrolment day!
The music program, which runs every term, called Top of the Pops, has both organisations working together, committed to customer and carer involvement in all aspects of its development, including regular feedback from students attending courses.
This continues the philosophy of shared development and shared delivery and shared decision making.
Recovery College is on Thursday’s from 11am to 12:30pm
