Seuss-essful Fundraiser!

On Saturday, we had our Christmas Fundraiser at the Bonded Warehouse in aid of The Percy Hedley Foundation and The Arts Award training! You turned up by the boat-load and we had anything and everything going on. The evening was a great success thanks to everyone who turned up and those who donated externally! The theme of the evening was Dr. Seuss and our Bunker staff took no shortcuts on delivering that with crazy costumes and wild decorations…

At the fundraiser we had mulled wine, hot chocolate, a photo-booth, staff performances, raffles, games, people wearing tights on their heads and much, much more.

We started the evening off with Adam Littlemore who delivered a set on guitar that wasn’t quite like any other! Then we followed that up with the amazing Heavenly Thrillbillies who stunned our audience and really got the crowd going with their bluegrass tunes & matching outfits. Next up was our Bunker singing club who did a fantastic job with their renditions of many Christmas classics and some pop favourites such as ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Black Magic’!

Shortly after, we had our activities section of the night where we held a scavenger hunt and played a balloon toss & the antler game – this proved to get a lot of laughs and everyone who was involved looked to be having bucket-loads of fun. We praised and prized our winners and got the food underway with some entertainment to accompany the vast selection of pies and cakes that were on offer.

To finish up with we had our 2 Bunker bands perform, where we were treated to some Christmas tunes and some tributes to Tony Van Frater and Dickie Hammond who sadly passed away this year – it was important to us to make sure that they were recognised as they were part of the foundations of The Bunker itself. For the very last section of the evening we drew our raffle winners who received a variation of many different prizes, including: 2x tickets to ‘American Idiot’ at the Empire Sunderland, a Meccano set, sweets, handmade scarf & hat set, electronic drum kit, Paper Jamz, and more!

All in all, the night was heaps of fun and everyone who attended had a great time. We can’t wait to see what happens next year! What theme would you choose?

"The Bunker is a superb place to have in Sunderland, it is a breeding ground for talent and without it I doubt I would have ever become a professional musician. I have been going there for 15 years and it's better than ever. It's soulful, ethical and affordable and the city would be screwed without it. I love it."

"Sunderland owes a great deal to the Bunker. Not just because of the bands it has helped to nurture. Well known bands reveal only a fraction of the important work that the bunker does. The work the bunker does is truly invaluable and our City cannot do without it!
